why I hate motion comics and all digital comics needs to die
Motion Comics....
The first major motion comic was released by lionsgate in 2005, SAW: REBIRTH. I say major because motion comics have been on the underground of the internet for awhile. The first major motion comics released, which used the term motion comic was released by warner brothers, the owner of DC comics, releasing Bat-man: MAD LOVE and WATCHMEN. Marvel soon followed with the release of JOSS WHEDON and JOHN CASSADAY's Astonishing X-men, SPIDER-WOMAN by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS and ALEX MALEEV which was followed by IRON-MAN EXTREMIS. These are not the first motion comics as undergound internet artist was releasing motion comics before the big-boys caught wind of the trend. Even before that motion comics can be traced back to the visual novel which was created in JAPAN in the 80's. But yet and still motion comics are the new thing sweeping through the digital frontier. In my personal opinion motion comics remind me of the old HULK and Spider-man cartoons of the sixties. So trust me when I say there is nothing new about motion comics.
I hate motion comics and Digital comics
Maybe I hate motion comics and all digital comics "needs" to die is too strong. Maybe I should say I hate motion comics and all digital comics "MUST" die. That might be a better way to put it. Must die. Here is a little background information for those of you that think that I might be a traditionalist meaning I am against computer animation or something like that, About a year and a half ago I was actually majoring in computer animation and video game design. The second week in the first semester I was informed by my academic advisor that I would actually have to attend school 6 years to learn everything I wanted to learn about designing video games and computer animation. I did a quick age assessment and made the decision that I did not want to be a forty five year old graduate having to pay back 250,000 worth of college loans. I changed my major to business with a focus on small business management and entreuprenurship. I figure it would be better for me to get my associates in business and go off into business for myself. Cheaper too. This might be one of the things I might regret when I am OLD and look back at my life, but its a choice that I have made. Yes I am a business major but comic-books remain my first love and I am taking my craft seriously for the first time in my life. Doing some serious writing and working on my drawing, you know, perception, perspective, backgrounds, anatomy, and storytelling. When I'm ready I'm shooting for IMAGE COMICS and the whole creator owner thing. So I am for real and I do have love for comics and I have dreams of oneday being a comic creator. Why do I hate motion comics and digital comics you ask? Well I do not HATE motion comics or digital comics but I do see a clear and present danger to the future of physical comics. I see the death of comic-book shops at the same time I can see comics around in digital form which I think is the death of a culture happening right before our eyes. I look at the havoc that the internet has wreaked on the entertainment industry, music and movies, and I think it is only a matter of time before it hits comics the same way. Look at the state of the post office as more and more people opt for a faster way through e-mail. Look at the pixar affect with the success of toy story and finding nemo and the incredibles there came a day of reckoning for the old school animators of Disney who viewed computer animated movies more profitable than hand animated movies and axed the majority of their animators as a result. Which is a shame to a person that does not collect comics this is really no big deal but to me, a guy who grew up on comics and remember amassing a library and proudly showing off my collection to my friends and swapping out comics with friends, I see this as the beginning of the end, apocalypse now, THE DEATH OF A CULTURE. That is why I hate motion comics and all digital comics "NEEDS" to die. Peace I'm audi 5000.
